he wasn't one to show emotions, the intensity that followed him like a shadow wasn't often susceptible to such human expressions like grief or praise and accolades. he was a warrior-- a soldier and that was all. human's and those under his charge were but a mission for him to carry out for the cause he served. whatever that still was. castiel could be callously indifferent and cold, calculated and strategically complex in times where simplicity was more than necessary.

there was something significant and potent about the werewolf's constant presence in his company. how leah was quickly wearing away at who he had been dragged off the line to be. her kindness and understanding towards him... her otherworldly patience with him; sheered away his stiff and rather dry mannerisms- even his sarcasm which at first had dripped with malice and indignation had been carefully chipped down to gentle teasing and easily disguised smiles when she wasn't looking.

"if anything, it's you they owe their lives to... i wouldn't have-- i wouldn't have sown mercy unless you'd taught me first." his lips turned upwards and the faintest smile hung at the corners.

The dragon likes that a lot, bouncing up and down with a big smile. (yeah, I was thinking so! That would be SUPER fun!!! Awww what if Melodía makes a prosthetic fin for Hiccup? She decorates it and everything)

Hiccup let out a light laugh, squeezing his eyes shut, not expecting Melodía to do that.

When she finished, he gave her a peck on her freckled cheek, just before Draco covered them both with dragon spit.

Seeing how happy the dragon was with his new name, Hiccup grinned. "Perseus it is, then! You are welcome to stay in Berk as long as you like. I think you'll find it rather enjoyable, really!"

Turning back to Melodía, he smiled warmly at her. "You know what this means, don't you?"

He grinned. "You really do achieve whatever you set your mind to."

He was a bit embarrassed at his behavior. He knew that Merlin could take a good fussing at. He didn't want to do that to the new apprentice. ❝Kiara, is it? Am I interrupting any important studies? I have a very minor cut - it just needs bandaged up.❞ Not only was Arthur just giving Merlin hell, but he didn't want to seem like this was his normal reaction to an injury.

he's accustomed to doubt, concerns over his capabilities - it was his age when doc first employed him, but when that was no longer viable, it was his glasses, his music, his lack of speech. he's endured the dubious glares and overt hostilities, slurs and disparaging remarks, some genuine, most merely an attempt to elicit some sort of reaction - which baby never gives. partly because it's so familiar at this point, the same routine played out a dozen times, but mostly because he'd learned fairly quickly that any response from him only worsens the situation - and the silence is comfortable, after all.

and for the most part, he's been much the same on this job, despite how dissimilar it is what he's come to expect. not that the drive had been particularly challenging; an amateur could've gotten them here. it makes baby wonder why, exactly, doc had insisted he do the job, when it'd involve so much waiting - but he's in no position to question. he does what he's told; it's a common refrain when doc's met with resistance from the crew of the week; and he doesn't ask questions.

but not asking them doesn't mean he doesn't have them, and a prominent one currently is what he must look like for her to ask that. there's an undeniable nervousness droning inside him, the rapid tapping of his foot uncharacteristically out of sync from the music blaring in his ears, and through his dark glasses, baby peers upward at her; the creases in his forehead smooth out as he shakes his head, uncertain at first, then, with slightly more confidence. he shoves his hands into his jacket pockets, hoping to appear more relaxed - the calm under pressure man that doc's trained him to be. "'m just, uh, not real good at waiting." he doesn't need to look at his watch to know it's only been an hour since frank's man left them here; he can count by the songs that have played since. "-not for long periods of time, anyways. usually it's just, you know, a couple minutes behind the wheel."
